Artist's Description

This picture of the Neowise Comet was captured on July 12 at 4:30 AM, just north of Kansas City, Missouri (USA).

According to Wikipedia, the Neowise Comet was recently discovered on March 27, 2020 by the NEOWISE space telescope. It will be visible to the naked eye through July 2020. It will be closest to Earth on 7/23/2020 at about 64 million miles (about 70% of the distance from Earth to Sun). It's orbit repeats once every 6800 years. The comet itself is about 3 miles wide, which is considered large for a comet.
